Last Friday, the annual Sail Training Trust Regatta and Awards Ceremony took place at ASC Portsmouth, welcoming our remarkable group of young people from local Portsmouth schools.

Over the last month students involved in the Maritime Education Programme with Sail Training Trust Portland have had the opportunity to visit local maritime industry professionals. They have been able to chat with the volunteers at Weymouth Lifeboat Station as well as paying a visit to Portland Marina and Portland Port.

This week while out on a session, Priory School pupil Lucas spotted a kayak fisherman in the water who needed help. He was unable to right his kayak and was tangled in his fishing line.

Over 40 pupils from five different local Portsmouth schools attended ASC Portsmouth on Wednesday, for an inspiring day that included a Q&A from British Sailing Team athletes Saskia Tidey and Matilda Nicholls, as well a speed networking event with various local maritime businesses.

Ed and Carolyn Phillips from Portsmouth Sail Training Trust (PSTT) were named the winners of the Maritime Legacy Award at the 2024 Maritime UK Solent Awards. 

On March 6th we were delighted to welcome over 40 young people from 5 schools across Portsmouth to the first Portsmouth Sail Training Trust (PSTT) Careers Day, hosted by the Andrew Simpson Centre Portsmouth in partnership with Maritime UK Solent.

In September of 2022 Portsmouth Sail Training Trust opened a new centre in partnership with the not-for-profit Andrew Simpson Centre Portland, the Portland Sail Training Trust.

Milly loved taking part in the two-year PSTT program and has gone on to become an instructor, helping lots of other young sailors and windsurfer reach their potential.

In September of 2022 Portsmouth Sail Training Trust opened a new centre in partnership with the not-for-profit Andrew Simpson Centre Portland, the Portland Sail Training Trust.

The Portsmouth Sail Training Trust accounts for the year ended 31st December 2022 were approved by the trustees on September 14th 2023.

Thanks to our partners at Andrew Simpson Yachting, students have had the opportunity to take part in taster sessions on board a 39ft sailing yacht.

Throughout the 2022 – 2023 academic year, over 300 RYA certificates have been awarded to the young people.

We’ve partnered with Trafalgar Wharf to help offer our participants insight into many of the potential career opportunities within the UK’s marine sector.

Sessions with ASY were great fun and it was awesome to see the guys thrive on Duel. For some of them it was a real “look at what I’m doing moment”...

The Andrew Simpson Foundation's Marketing & Communications Manager, Sally Turner, will be running the London Marathon to raise funds for the PSTT.

Alfie started attending PSTT back in 2018. Alfie used to struggle to control his emotions and sometimes found it hard to develop good relationships with his peers.

We were pleased to purchase a new Hawk 20 keelboat over the winter and are even more pleased to have recently secured funding for a second one from Sport England.

We have been really enjoying the lovely weather in Portsmouth for the start of our Autumn programme here at PSTT.

With the recent spell of good weather, we have been really loving getting more and more Portsmouth young people out on the water.
